Louisville lost 550 homes in the Marshall Fire on 30 December 2021. The city's own rebuilding page reports that as of August 2026, 532 of those 550 have been rebuilt or have started the process. Two people died countywide and more than a thousand homes were destroyed across Louisville, Superior and unincorporated Boulder County. What changed afterwards is written into the municipal code, and any homeowner replacing a roof in Louisville needs to read it. Chapter 15.70, the Fire Hardening Code, took effect on 10 December 2024 under Ordinance 1884 of 2024, was amended in 2025, and was extended again by an emergency ordinance effective 21 January 2026. It applies citywide, not only to the burn area.
